Senior Project Raises $1793 for JCCF

Sheyenne Brodkorb from Wessington Springs, SD, a senior at Wessington Springs High School choose to conduct a barrel racing fundraiser for JCCF as her Senior Experience Project.  When asked why she wanted to raise money for JCCF Sheyenne said, “I think it is a because it is a charity that uses their money wisely.  I have heard many good stories on how the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund used their charity money to help the people who are hurt and in need.  Another reason I chose this charity was because rodeo is a big part of my life and I wanted a charity that will help the injured cowboys and cowgirls when in need of it.”

The project was a great success with 116 barrel racers entering!  Businesses in Wellington Springs helped with the added money including:  Sweet Grass, True Value, Amkota, Humm Dinger, Springs Inn, American Bank and Trust, Rolling Hills Vet Clinic, Farm Bureau, Cone Zone, Jerry’s Motor Clinic, Springs Animal Health Center, Springs Prairie Lounge, Mary and Todd Kopfmann, Baker’s Repair and Design, Korhmer Agency, Springs Auto, Lewis Family Drug and also Thrivent.

The Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund is grateful to Sheyenne for choosing the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund to benefit for her Senior Experience and everyone who helped with and entered the barrel race.  The $1793 donated to JCCF will greatly assist in giving injured athletes “a hand up.”

10th Round Party Raises $30,000 for Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund

A special event took place on December 13, 2014 in Bridgeport, Nebraska.  The small community rallied around the sport of rodeo and its athletes at the community center where a sold out crowd enjoyed a wonderful dinner, dancing and watching the 10th round of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.  This event showed the true spirit of the sport of rodeo and raised an astonishing $30,000 for the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund.

World Champion PRCA Steer Wrestler Dean Gorsuch has known the highs of winning two world titles and the lows of being injured and having to sit out of rodeo for an extensive time time.  Even in the down times he and his wife Bekah wanted to know how to “give back”.  Dean and Bekah were so thankful for the assistance the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund had afforded them in the times Dean was not able to rodeo due to injury that they wanted to support the Fund and they came up with the idea of the 10th Round Party.  Once Bekah and her friend Kristen Kraupie got a hold of the idea it was bound to be a success.  What started as a fundraising event for JCCF ended as a community gathering of rodeo fans and participants in a time where they wouldn’t normally see each other.

We are in awe of the results of this event and so thankful that we get to work in an industry with folks like Dean, Bekah, Kristen and everyone who attended, donated and supported the event in any way.  They hope to make this an annual event so if you are in the Bridgeport, Nebraska area keep an eye out for information on the 2015 10th Round Party, of course Dean and Bekah hope to be missing the party this year with a healthy Dean making his run at qualifying for the 2015 Wrangler NFR, but they want the spirit of giving and fun to continue.

Style Show Raises $78,000 for JCCF at the South Point

Style Show and Luncheon supports Crisis Fund
by Susan Kanode

The 27th annual Pro Rodeo League of Women Style Show & Luncheon was once again a huge success, raising $78,000 for the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund.

It has been a collective effort by wives, mothers and friends of rodeo contestants who have worked diligently to raise money with the luncheon tickets, raffles, auction items and donations for a fun-filled event that has become a Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (WNFR) tradition. Hosted by Michael and Paula Gaughan at the South Point Hotel Casino and Spa, this event has raised over $1.5 million that has been given back to rodeo contestants who are injured and need financial assistance for living expenses.

Among the models were WNFR barrel racing qualifiers Nancy Hunter, Jana Bean, Christine Laughlin, Brittany Diaz, Mary Walker, and Christy Loflin. Tuf Cooper, Jacobs and Sterling Crawley along with a special appearance by internet sensation Dale Brisby were among the entertainment. Other models included contestants’ wives – Cassidy (Jessy) Davis, Brittany (Dru) Melvin, Jordan (Riley) Minor, Morgan (Tyler) Corrington, Denver (Ryan) Watkins, and Kaysie (Aaron) Pass. There was also a contingent of rodeo kids sporting fashion from Wrangler’s All-Around Baby Collection.

Sharon Camarillo and Jennifer Smith provided a running commentary. Coors Man in the Can John Harrison assisted with raffle items and his wife, Carla, provided auctioneer services. The event is spearheaded by Tracy Hedeman and Stacy Custer, who put together a team of volunteers who work all year long to make each year’s event bigger and better.

“I’m constantly amazed at how the rodeo family comes together and supports each other,” said Karl Stressman, commissioner of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) and Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund board member. “The dedication of these women, the sponsors and donors is unsurpassed. Not only are they raising valuable funds, they are keeping Western traditions alive and well.”
